FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Who are you people anyway? Corinthians?
A: Do some browsing, check the other pages here. History will tell you who we were; Team shows who we are now.
Q: Cricket sounds fun. Can I play?
A: Good question. If you've played cricket before, you're heartily welcome to turn up and see whether we are about your level. If you've never played before and don't know anything about it, what are you even doing reading this page?
Q: Do I have to actually be good at cricket to join up?
A: Not really, but... as of 2009 we're Bundesliga, which means that obviously our league team for each game will be selected on the basis of skill and performance. We also have friendly matches against local rivals and the occasional trip to Wiesbaden, Freiburg and so on - in these games we expect to let the non-Bundesliga players test themselves, so there ought to be a place for everyone to play competitively.
Q: Kit? Fees?
A: Relax. We have a good selection of kit so don't worry about turning up without pads or a bat, although most cricketers end up wanting their own kit anyway. Membership fee is EUR 60 for a complete season, negotiable for people who join halfway through the season, the under-employed, and Test-standard cricketers. The membership fee covers replacement kit, admin expenses (DCB and HCV membership, legal stuff, insurance, cricket balls and hopefully some doughnuts if there's anything left over). There will be a per-match fee for those lucky players who play Bundesliga matches, but it won't be anything very shocking.
Q: What's special about the Corinthians?
A: We've come from pretty much nowhere and pulled together a team that has loads of fun every week, training or competitive games, and evens wins more than it loses. Last year, our first year in competition, we won 9 out of 14 games (and learned more from the games we lost than the ones we won, interestingly). We're multicultural and friendly - the Corinthians has had players from China, Hungary, Eritrea, Romania, Germany and Somalia as well as the more obvious Test nations. This year is going to be loads of fun, what with Bundesliga games and the KO Cup; and to add excitement, any player from our Bundesliga West division can be chosen to represent Hessen in the German State competition, regardless of how their club finishes - this means that all the Corinthians have the chance to shine. Given the way our guys performed in 2008, we could be on a longer journey than we expected; you may wish to join us.
